Creating Magic

Updated: 6/15/2004

Magic execution types

Verbal
Mixtures
Gestures (perform body/hand movements)
Atuning to a Natural Force (star wars)
Magic Forging (system where you can damage/destroy a weapon when you make mistakes)

  • Verbal
    • Mastering of the language used to perform the spell
    • You must learn the rules of other languages to perform verbal magic. The rules are recorded into your magic journal as you learn them. Power of a spell increases as you find more advanced language to describe it.
    • Each spell requires a uniqueness that allows you to attack the specific enemy.
    • Fails if the tongue is incorrect (accenting and grammar)
  • Mixtures
    • You must scour the globe to find rare components used in creation of a spell
    • spell recipes are found in Mage's journals that are scattered around the world.
    • The process of creating the spell must be learn as well.
    • Everything is recorded in your mage journal as you learn it.
    • Ingredients are rated with a level of potency, and the form they come in determines their effectiveness. You can use more or less potent ingredients to vary the level of the spell.
  • Gestures
    • Acrobatic / Dancing skills must be fine tuned.
    • The grace with which a gesture is performed effects its level.
    • A dancing system, maybe even DDR like control system could be used to train with.
    • This magic would be similiar to Sabin in FF3. Requiring precise controller movements. Also the timing will effect the power of the spell as well. Some spells may require you to perform a very slow or very fast combination of movements.
  • Atuning to a Natural Force
    • Becoming aware of other senses
    • Similiar to triggering the force powers in Star Wars, you would eventually be able to realize a greater power and connect with it. Over time this connection grows and your abilities do as well.
    • This system is similiar to the Ghost system
    • Nature can overwhelm you with it's power and take control of your persona. Good / Evil alignment can shift when practicing the force.
  • Magic Forging
    • Characters that don't use magic may have their inanimate object take on magical traits.
    • A magician must be careful when bestowing their power upon weapons / armor / etc. since they can potentially destroy the item.
    • A sequence of actions must be performed to properly forge an item with magic. These sequences can be guessed or learned in mage's journals. Since some items may already have magical properties, the magicians must have knowledge of what magic may be combined or used to cancel an effect on the item. Mistakes will destroy the item and be potentially hazardous.
  • Innate
    • Miraculously born with the gift of magic. Magic use is a natural and regenerating force within these blessed people.
